What happened during those years
On May 20th, 1940, Germany invaded France from the western front, they defeated most of the French military using the genius military strategy of Blitzkrieg, France fell to Germany and on
On June 22nd, 1940, France signed an armistice with Germany giving the German authorities the right to supervise the French administration. It also gave German authorities jurisdiction in court rooms across France and the German officials had a say in domestic security within France.
As the Germans occupied France and rounded up any Jews and created the two separate parts of France, the North belonging to Germany and the South is a puppet government mostly influenced by the Italians. Most of the French soldiers escaped, along with Charles de Gaulle the leader of France and later, the leader of the French Resistance.
From the Invasion of France a new breed of underground heroes were born, the French Resistance. Made from woman and men and children alike who had been brought together by a common cause, a love for the fatherland and a hatred for the Nazi's. So with hidden weapons and growing numbers of French common people, French Soldiers, and any others who are fit to join , they started slowly stealing supplies from the Nazis, Attacking military installments, or even just attacking a few guards on the road to make a statement, on D-Day when Allies stormed France from the west coast they had some unlikely help from inside heroes, together they took France back and most importantly, Paris.
